The Hari-Surya combo team-up for the third time in "Singam" after "Aaru" and "Vel". This is Surya's 25th film in his career and lives up to his reputation as an action movie specialist, although there is no blood and violence.

Duraisingam (Surya) is a police officer in a small town called Nallur. He leads a straight-forward, happy-go-lucky existence and everyone respects him. To assist him (and do the comedy track) we have Erimalai (Vivek). Cheerful lass Kavya (Anushka) visits the town on vacation and falls for his courageous persona, winning him over as well. Everything is fine for Duraisingam until he meets Chennai criminal Mayilvaganam (Prakash Raj) and gets trapped into a police case which requires him to report to Nallur's police station for a period of 15 days. Due to the outcome of few incidents, Duraisingam and Mayilvaganam meet head on in Nallur town. Unable to face Durai in his own town Mayilvaganam gets him transferred to Chennai to take his revenge. How Duraisingam deals with his newly transferred job and settles the score with Mayilvaganam complete the rest of the story.

In every frame, we have Surya roaring like a lion in portraying a commercial action hero. He has done an amazing job as an honest cop. Anushka's character gets more scenes here compared to her "Vettaikaran" role. Vivek as Surya's subordinate does his usual comedy to tickle our funny bones. Devi Sri Prasad's music is enjoyable but could have been better with "Stole My Heart" and "En Idhayam" being the top picks.

Director Hari has given the right mix of action, romance and comedy, which is likely to win the appreciation of audiences. However in terms of story there is nothing unique as it is similar to Hari's previous films like "Saamy" which revolves around the locking of horns between an honest cop and a villain. We still have the same unbelieving stunt sequences, bashing up baddies single-handedly and Prakash Raj's same old villain personification.

On the whole, "Singam" does have plenty of entertaining elements and keeping us glued to our seats for two and a half hours seem easy. It's an enjoyable movie.
