Watch this if you liked: “No Longer Heroine”

The Good, the Bad and the Not-so-typical Hero:

A sweet and funny love story between two characters that seem very mismatched as the guy is a muscular man with a scary face, while the girl is petite and beautiful. Nevertheless, the two of them fall in love with each other at first sight.

Despite their differences, especially appearances, the film shows that sometimes looks don't matter and love can come in all sorts of shapes and forms.

The film has all the typical cliches shoujo (a kind of manga or anime genre usually aimed towards teenage female readership) moments, but most of them are still fun to watch because the couple in this film is definitely not something you'd typically find in normal Japanese dramas, animes or mangas.

That's why the plot is kind of refreshing even though it's predictable because the main hero is someone out of the ordinary.

As the film is based on the anime and manga of the same name, fans of the series should know that the film strays slightly from the original series but not too drastically as it retains all the important elements.

Ryohei Suzuki did a splendid job as the ugly but kind-hearted hero, Takeo Gouda. The makeup department did a great job at changing his good-looking appearance into what we see in the movie.

Suzuki certainly stays true to his character as his appearance, expressions and voice is as convincing as the anime and manga character.

There are plenty of fun and hilarious moments especially those between Gouda and his handsome best friend Makoto Sunakawa whom he always seeks for love advice.

Overall, the movie is typical yet fun and enjoyable to watch.

Trivia:

• Ryohei Suzuki is 32-years-old. In the film, he plays a 15-year-old high school student. Mei Nagano who plays his love interest is 17-years-old.
