The Promise (LAFF)

Leo lives in a remote Mexican town. A rebellious but intelligent child, he makes life impossible for his schoolmates and teacher, Professor Cruz. Professor Cruz believes that reading is a fundamental skill children need to expose themselves to the world and learn about their own hopes and dreams. As he makes his class read the classics, Leo resists and distracts himself with games and pranks. One day, the professor`s wife cheats on him and runs away with a colleague of his. The roles soon swap around: Leo is now the one pushing his depressed professor to attend school every day. He starts to pick up the books his professor used to force him to read and realises the joy reading and writing brings him. Their friendship begins to blossom, culminating in Leo promising to win the Cultural Olympics and get a scholarship to study abroad. Leo leaves his village and eventually becomes a famous writer through his hard work. He returns home to remember where everything began.
