This sequel, which picks up five years after the events in 2014`s "Maleficent", continues to explore the complex relationship between the titular horned fairy and her goddaughter Princess Aurora, who has accepted Prince Phillip`s proposal and will soon be queen. However, they are unaware that the prince`s mother, Queen Ingrith, is planning to use their wedding to divide fairies and humans forever. The impending war puts Maleficent and Princess Aurora on opposite sides, making the two question the complex family ties that bind them.
