Fouziah Gous and "Sifu"

30 Jun – Newcomer Fouziah Ghous is excited about landing her first lead role in the latest piece from controversial director Professor Madya Razak Mohaideen titled "Sifu". Fouziah, who is also the winner of Most Popular Promising Actress in Anugerah Skrin TV3 2007, plays the main character Mila in this adventure comedy.

Caught by Cinema Online at the shooting set in Dataran Shah Alam on Saturday, 28 June, the former stewardess of Malaysia Airline System (MAS) revealed that she cherishes the experience of acting in this movie, and that the story is meaningful to her. Explaining further, Fouziah said that "Sifu" is a good mix of established stars and newcomers to the scene, which makes the comedy seem so natural and spontaneous. "The experience to play alongside big names like Saiful Apek and Erra Fazira is a great opportunity for me," she added. Nabil, another freshman to the local scene, also impressed her with his passion for and commitment to the production.

"Mila is a unique role as it deals more with the character's expression rather than dialogue." - Fouziah Ghous

Despite the din of the mat rempits, Fouziah stills manages a smile with Cinnamon.
"All in all, this film can be considered my first main role though I have acted in several films including "Bujang Senang", "Skrip 7707", "Otai", and "Rasukan Ablasa" under Razak, and upcoming release "Malaikat Maut", which is directed by Bade Hj Azmi." As to why she accepted this role, Fouziah responded by saying that sees the role (Mila) as unique. To play Mila, the focus is not on dialogue; instead, it deals a lot with facial expressions. "The expressions flesh out the character in this movie and are also the source of jokes," chirped Fouziah.

Renowned writer Shukor Mohaideen is chatting about his latest work, "Sifu"

Director Razak briefing the cast and crew prior to filming
Meanwhile, Shukor Mohaideen, the younger brother of Razak who penned the script for "Sifu" believes the film will be well-received by the public when it enters cinemas, as the story deals with everyday Malaysian life. The comedy element is well-blended to make it feel spontaneous and amusing at the same time. He also added that the film incorporates a lot of CGI special effects and a few scenes were shot using a ‘heli-cam' for realistic effects. As for the filming in Dataran Shah Alam itself, over 20 mat rempit style motorcycles were used in the scene, which involved the hilarious antics of the characters Sifu (Saiful Apek) and Tongga (Nabil Raja Lawak), who have supposedly never seen a motorcycle before, believing it to be a type of animal.

"Sifu" tells about the adventure of two friends Sifu and Tongga on a mission to rescue the abducted daughter of their tribe's leader named Mila (Fouziah Gous). The abductors are two journalists from the tabloid Sinar Harian named Tammy (Erra Fazira) and Azad (Azad Jasmin). Since Sifu and Tongga come from a remote tribe in a secluded cave, they face a lot of challenges and culture shock when they come to the big city. In their mission to bring Mila back home, they face bizarre and confusing incidents, which make up the jokes in the film.
