27 Feb – Basking in glory of the 84th Academy Awards with 5 Oscar wins each, is Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" and French director Michel Hazanavicius' world-celebrated silent film "The Artist", for which the latter bagged the highest honours of the prestigious event.

"The Artist's" Hazanavicius was honoured with Best Director for the mostly silent film and French actor Jean Dujardin managed to beat big names like George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Gary Oldman for Best Actor.

"The Artist" also won the highest accolade of the night; the Oscar for Best Picture, followed by Best Original Score and Costume Design.

The adventure fantasy 3D film "Hugo", won Best Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Art Direction and Cinematography.

A standing ovation from the A-list Hollywood audience was given to Best Actress winner Meryl Streep, who walked away with her third Oscar win for her powerful impersonation of former British premier Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady". Streep had previously won Best Supporting Actress for "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979) and Best Actress for "Sophie's Choice" (1982).

The Best Supporting Actor went to 82-year-old Christopher Plummer ("The Beginners"), making history as the oldest person to ever win an Oscar, while Octavia Spencer won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Southern drama, "The Help".
