"Budak Lapok" scheduled for Raya

22 Aug – It's a hark back to the golden era of Malaysian film as new animation "Budak Lapok", featuring the characters of industry greats P. Ramlee, Aziz Sattar and S. Shamsuddin, is revealed in a press conference at Crown Princess Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, on 20 August, 2007.

Producer Wafa Tan Sri Abdul Kadir said "It's just great to have this film done because it lets people know that Malaysians have our own cultural icons and idols as well. It is hoped that everyone will enjoy it when it hits the screens during Raya – and I'm very happy to know that there is still a place for old-time nostalgia. It's truly a family film." she added.

"Budak Lapok" is a Matahari Animation & Production animated feature which revisits the nostalgic Malay comedy films of yesteryear starring P. Ramlee, Aziz Sattar and S. Shamsuddin. In the film, the three actors are represented as friends Ramlee, Ajis and Sudin. The three boys live at Kampung Sebatang Pinang and get into a spot of trouble when they have to be at two places at the same time. One is a football tournament against Kampung Semerah Padi – a team represented by Sarip Dol, Megat Komeng and Brahim. The other event is an inter-school drama competition where they stand a chance of wooing three girls – Nani, Salmah and Eton.

Lending their voices to the cartoon feature are actors Aziz Sattar and S. Shamsuddin themselves, along with Nasir P. Ramlee, Dian P. Ramlee, Maizurah Hamzah, Jalil Hamid, Jasmin Hamid, Vanida Imran, Isma Alif, Abon, Sabri Yunos, Eric Fuzi and Sathiya.

"Budak Lapok" is scheduled for Hari Raya release in October later this year.
