Jack's back -"Money No Enough 2"

Jack Neo

21 Aug - Arguably Singapore's most famous and most successful director, Jack Neo has finally followed up on his 1998 blockbuster comedy "Money No Enough" with a long-awaited sequel after 10 years.

Speaking at a press conference held last week at GSC 1 Utama, Neo said that "Money No Enough 2" took 10 years because he wanted a better storyline for the movie to give the audience that "extra kick". In addition, the 10 years also serve to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the successful predecessor.

The cast for the sequel were in town to promote the movie, including livewire comedian Mark Lee, last seen by Malaysians in the rib-tickling "Ah Long Pte Ltd" opposite Fann Wong. When asked to describe the character he plays in "Money No Enough 2", Lee said: "My character is one who spends lavishly to keep up with his 'wannabe' lifestyle." However, he felt that the most challenging part was when the director required him to shed tears. He said it took quite a while to be able to do so.

Someone who did not need to travel very far to the press conference was TV drama veteran Lai Ming. She said: "Although I am the only Malaysian cast in this movie, I felt very comfortable working with Jack and the entire crew. It was such a pleasure working on this movie!"

Cheering loudly in Hokkien to hopes of striking box office gold

TV drama veteran Lai Ming was moved to tears
Lai Ming plays a mother with three sons who struggle to make ends meet for the sake of the family. With her outstanding performance and her penchant for deep emotions, Lai Ming was applauded by the Malaysian press, who viewed the film earlier in the morning. This acknowledgement brought tears to her eyes.

Finally, Neo concluded the session saying: "I would like to thank the viewers for their comments and criticism – they helped improve this film. The main objective of this movie is to have a plot that delights and amuses everyone, while at the same time being easy to understand". At the end of the photo session, the entire cast shouted "hook ah" in unison which means "great blessing" in Hokkien, to hopes of striking gold at Malaysian box office for "Money No Enough 2".

"Money No Enough 2" opens in Malaysia this 28 August 2008.
