15 Jun – Prolific production house Metrowealth's first stab at horror-comedy proves successful as the Lisa Surihani-starrer takes top spot at the Malaysian box office for the weekend just gone (Jun11-14), grossing in excess of RM 5 million to date, according to its head honcho David Teo. This development is all the more uncharacteristic considering the 58 print-strong movie is already in its second week of general release. However, for the last weekend of school holidays, it went down as the most "accessible" movie (rated PG-13) next to "Terminator Salvation" (rated U). Both movies outperformed co-debutants "Drag Me To Hell" and "Blood: The Last Vampire" which could have had a bigger slice of the weekend bonanza if they were not rated 18. The production house also had a good outing with "Syurga Cinta", which outdid internal box office expectations for a romantic drama when it opened about a month ago. This coming weekend is expected to be a low-key affair with no significant new titles releasing, as the nation braces itself for the sequel to the all-time highest grossing movie in Malaysia, "Transformers" next week. "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" is currently playing in cinemas.
