29 Sep – Kollywood monster title "Endhiran" (or "Robo" for the Hindi version) will come in full English subtitles for all Malaysians to enjoy, according to sources within Malaysian distributor Lotus Five Star AV, who had secured an expensive deal with Indian producer Sun Pictures in India for the 1 October 2010 wide release in Malaysia.
The Tamil blockbuster will play in at least 100 screens at more than 80 locations nationwide, including the largest cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas. Bernama reported that there will be shows at selected cinemas on the day prior, where the tickets are going for RM 60, proceeds of which are to go towards a yet unopened catering school. Many cinemagoers have been bombarding the cinema chains on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter with pre-sales enquiries.
Two inactive Johor cinemas that were previously under the Kumpulan Pawagam Iswaria management will now reopen on 1 October 2010 to cash in on "Endhiran". The cinema in Perling Mall, Johor Bahru has been acquired by Lotus Five Star whereas Lido in Kluang has been acquired by Antenna Entertainments, the distributor of "3 Idiots". On a related matter, industry sources confirm that six cinemas under the banner of Big Cinemas Lotus Five Star will revert to their original Lotus Five Star management from 7 October onwards, namely Butterworth, Tasik Skudai, Broadway, Klang, Selayang and Bukit Jambul.
