2 Aug – "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", starring Nicolas Cage as a master sorcerer training his successor to save the world, has taken a fall at the Malaysian weekend box office, placing in second behind new spy thriller "Salt". Angelina Jolie takes on Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent turned Russia expert analyst who finds herself the focus of a massive manhunt after the agency receives information that she may be a Russian sleeper agent. Hot on Salt's trail is Agent Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Salt's friend in the "Russia house," Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber). Box Office Mojo reports that "Salt" star Angelina Jolie scored her fourth best opening after "Wanted", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider". Online reports have also been circulating that there might be a sequel, as producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confessed that they've already explored on possible title, "Salt And Pepper". However, the title has been used before for a 1968 movie that starred Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis Jr. While Leonardo DiCaprio's "Inception" takes a drop to third position in Malaysia, the film maintains its grip in the United States, taking the top spot in its third weekend.
