"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is No. 1 in the U.S., M'sia and S'pore. |
6 May – "Avengers: Age of Ultron" proves itself to be the ultimate box office winner as it dominates the number one spot at the U.S., Malaysia and Singapore box office for 30 April to 3 May.
The Marvel movie finally opened in North American cinemas last weekend, as the second-biggest opening weekend in the U.S. of all time with its USD191.2 million gross, just a little behind the record-breaking USD200 million collection of the first "Avengers".
Over in Asia, the movie is doing just as great, placing first at SEA charts and becoming the number one highest opening day of all time in Cambodia.
Based on Box Office Mojo stats, "Avengers: Age of Ultron", placed at number one, has a global gross of USD663.9 million. Adding that to the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies' collection, this makes the franchise now the highest-grossing movie franchise in the world, dethroning the boy wizard "Harry Potter" franchise.
"Fast and Furious 7", part of the "Fast and Furious" franchise which is also the seventh highest-grossing in the world, reverses into the second spot with its USD6.6 million collection, while Blake Lively-starrer "The Age of Adaline" maintains its hold on the third place with its USD6.2 million.
"Helios" makes quite a debut in M'sia and S'pore. |
Over in Malaysia, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" does not budge from its first place position. Newly released Longman Leung and Sunny Luk-directed "Helios", starring an ensemble cast from Hong Kong, China, South Korea and Taiwan, places second. Another new release, Tamil movie "Uthama Villain", opens at number three.
Meanwhile in Singapore, first and second places mirror Malaysia's chart as "Avengers: Age of Ultron" still has the top spot while new release "Helios" opens at number two. Horror film "Unfriended" gets number three on its opening weekend.
Malaysia also saw the release of these movies last weekend: "Pilot Café", "Unfriended", "Skin Trade", "Monsters: Dark Continent", "Gabbar is Back", "Vai Raja Vai", "Ode To My Father" and "Road Of Enlightenment".
Other new releases in Singapore last weekend are "Uthama Villain", "Vai Raja Vai", "Gabbar Is Back", "Rubbers", "Cymbeline", "The Cobbler", "The Age of Adaline" and "ATM".
