"Avengers" defeats "Furious 7"

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" conquers No. 1 in M'sia and S'pore, yet to be released in the U.S.

28 Apr – "Fast and Furious 7" takes its fourth win in the U.S. as it tops the weekend box office charts once again for 23 to 26 April.

However, over on the other side of the world, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has assembled and knocked the racing franchise off its pedestal, taking over the first place in Malaysia and Singapore during its opening weekend.

The Marvel movie has yet to be released in North America, but Box Office Mojo stats show that it opened with an impressive USD201 million overseas.

Not to be outdone, "Fast and Furious 7" breaks another record as it races two spot from its seventh placing to the top five as one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, not to mention the fact that it is now the all-time number one in Cambodia as well as China.

Last weekend's U.S. box office chart saw the Vin Diesel, Paul Walker-led movie collect another USD17.8 million. Kevin James-starrer "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" held on to second spot with its USD14.7 million gross despite negative reviews from critics, while Blake Lively's "Age of Adaline" opens at number three with USD13.2 million.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" had a successful opening weekend in Malaysia, defeating "Fast and Furious 7" which now settles at number three. Sandwiched between the two blockbusters is Tamil horror comedy "Kanchana 2".

Over in Singapore, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" again had an impressive opening weekend, overtaking "Fast and Furious 7" to land at number one while the latter reversed a spot to number two. Animated film featuring Rihanna and Jim Parsons one again make third place its "Home".

Other new movies also released last weekend in Malaysia are "Selfie Suara Kubur" and "Avana Nee".

Meanwhile, for Singapore, last weekend's new releases are "Danny Collins", "Murmur Of The Hearts" and "Monsters: Dark Continent".
