A younger Aunt May in "Spider-Man" reboot

Marisa Tomei eyed for a role in the upcoming "Spider-Man".

9 Jul – Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei is looking at a possible role in an upcoming Sony-Marvel production.

Word has it, the "Parental Guidance" actress has been offered the role of Aunt May in the reboot of the "Spider-Man" franchise, according to Variety. If the deal goes through, Tomei would be playing the caretaker of Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

While fans are ecstatic to have the actress board the project, there are also those who voice concern over the 50-year-old being too young to play the character.

Aunt May was previously portrayed by Rosemary Harris at the age of 73 (during filming) in the 2001 "Spider-Man", she later reprised the role in the two following sequels. Sally Field took on the role around the age of 53 (during filming) in 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man", she also returned for the 2014 sequel.

This has led fans to comment that Aunt May is getting younger in each instalment. Though some fans defend this as being logical, since the Peter Parker in the upcoming movie will also be younger, Aunt May's age difference is plausible.

Whether she lands the role or not, Tomei will still be seen on the big screen in the August release "Trainwreck". She is also currently filming "The Big Short" alongside Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling.

The yet-to-be-titled "Spider-Man" movie swings into cinemas on 27 July 2017.
