19 Aug – All this while fans had been wondering who will be starring opposite Tom Holland's Spidey as Mary Jane Watson, and all this while, the answer had been right under their noses. To be fair, the cat is not meant to be out of the bag this early, the big revelation was supposed to have happened in the movie itself. If you do not want any spoilers on "Spider-Man: Homecoming", now would be the best time to click on another article.
According to The Wrap, sources close to them have revealed that the new Mary Jane will be played by none other than 19-year-old singer-actress, Zendaya. Back in March, Zendaya signed on to star in the superhero movie, though there was not much info released on her character. It was only much later that director Jon Watts revealed that she will be playing a character named Michelle. Again, not much info was spilled on that role. A glimpse of her in a recent trailer did not give up any clue to her silver screen personality. The Michelle-Mary Jane twist only comes to light now after the information leak. A report from Vulture also supports the Michelle-Mary Jane reveal, with its sources claiming that Michelle's Mary Jane identity was supposed to have been the twist towards the end of the movie, where she invites Peter to call her "M.J.". Sony, Marvel and Zendaya have yet to respond to the reports at the time of writing. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will focus on a teenage Spidey, played by 20-year-old Holland who made his webslinging debut in "Captain America: Civil War". Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei and Michael Keaton are also part of the cast. The "Spider-Man" reboot is expected to swing into cinemas on 6 July 2017.
