30 Mar – If you thought that we were going to see more of Spider-Man teaming up with the Avengers in Marvel's Phase 4, then you (probably) thought wrong. There is a possibility that Spidey isn't going to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for much longer, according to Cosmic Book News, even though it feels like he's only just arrived. To make things clear, Sony has the rights to our favourite web-slinger and several other characters he is associated with. However, Sony, Marvel and Disney mutually came to an agreement to have Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War" and "Avengers: Infinity War", and to have Marvel develop two Spider-Man solo movies, "Spider-Man: Homecoming", and the sequel, "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2". The former chief of Sony Pictures and one of the producers of "Spider-Man: Homecoming", Amy Pascal, spoke about Spider-Man leaving the MCU at CinemaCon. "One of the things that I think is so amazing about this experience is that you don't have studios deciding to work together to make a film very often," said Pascal. "In fact, it may never happen again-after we do the sequel."
There has been news of Sony developing their own Marvel Universe, not associated with the one created by Marvel Studios. A Venom movie and a Black Cat and Silver Sable movie are already in the works, though they might not involve any appearance from Spider-Man. For now, Sony is just biding their time and waiting for the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel to come out before, according to Pascal, Spidey is fully theirs once more. In other words, there's a chance that Spider-Man will be appearing on the big screen long after "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" is done, he just won't be appearing alongside Iron Man, Thor or any of the other Avengers again. Despite the soul-crushing announcement of no more Spider-Man and Avengers team-ups, most fans are sceptical, since Tom Holland – the actor who plays the boy behind the mask – himself stated that his contract includes 6 Marvel movies. "Captain America: Civil War" was his first appearance, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" make two and three, and "Avengers: Infinity War" makes four movies with Spider-Man. So he should have two movies left, right? Fans, let's just keep our fingers crossed and in the meantime enjoy "Spider-Man: Homecoming" when it swings into cinemas this July.
