31 Mar – "Insurgent", the second instalment in the "Divergent" series, slips to third place in the U.S. but manages to rise to number one at the Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office charts for 26 to 29 March. "Home", an animated film featuring the voices of Barbadian singer Rihanna and TV's "Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons, settles in cosily at number one in the U.S. on its opening weekend, having managed to gross USD52.1 million. Opening behind the computer-animated buddy comedy film is Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart-starrer "Get Hard". The comedy rakes in USD33.8 million and places second, leaving "The Divergent Series: Insurgent", which collected USD21.5 million, at third place.
Over in Malaysia, "Insurgent" surges one spot forward to first place, knocking "Cinderella" off her throne. While the Disney princess slips to second place, "Home" lands on third. The weekend box office chart for Singapore mirrors Malaysia's, as the top three spots are occupied by the same movies. "Insurgent" defends its number one spot, while "Cinderella" also stays put at number two. "Home" opens at number three. Other movies that also opened last weekend in Malaysia are "The Gunman", "Alien Outpost", "Indigenous", "Jengka" and "Valiyavan". Whereas in Singapore, other new releases for last weekend are "Valiyavan", "Jengka", "Sara", "Get Hard", "The Lovers", "Lost And Love", "The Lazarus Effect", "White God", "Everly" and "Mr. Pip".
