Guillermo del Toro no longer directing "Pacific Rim 2"

The sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim" will have a postponed release date.

24 Feb – The creator of TV's "Spartacus", Steven S. DeKnight, just landed the spot to direct the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" while del Toro will sit back and help DeKnight produce the movie, according to Empire.

This will mark DeKnight's debut as a movie director although he has a large influence working behind the scenes as a writer and director for TV, having also served as showrunner on "Daredevil" Season 1.

At the moment the script for the sequel is in the hands of Jon Spaihts but DeKnight could make some changes before he calls for production to begin. Plot details are still not known but we will see more of Jaeger-on-Kaiju battle action.

There has been some back-and-forth as to whether the movie would be made or not, but optimistic del Toro somehow knew it would eventually get made. Universal previously announced that "Pacific Rim 2" had been on pause.

The studio later removed the movie from its release line-up. But now "Pacific Rim 2" will have a later release after the initial date of August 4, 2017.
