"Jurassic World" confirmed as a trilogy

The sequel to "Jurassic World" (2015) will begin filming next year.

14 Sep – It's official, "Jurassic World" has been confirmed as a trilogy. Started by the first movie in 2015, the three-movie series will continue with two more instalments from 2018 onwards.

The news was confirmed by director Juan Antonio Bayona, who will be taking over directing duties from Colin Trevorrow, Slash Film reported.

"The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We're writing the second chapter, and it's very interesting where he's leading the story," said Bayona.

While it was already known that the sequel, "Jurassic World 2", will begin filming next year, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard returning in their respective starring roles, it was only recently confirmed that a third movie will follow and tie the series up as a trilogy.

Last year, "Jurassic World", technically the fourth instalment in the "Jurassic Park" series created by Steven Spielberg, made USD1.6 billion worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time.

There is no word yet on when the third "Jurassic World" movie will be released, but "Jurassic World 2" is already slotted for a 22 June 2018 release in North America.
