10 Apr – Fans of Korean movies were in for a real treat last weekend, as tvN Movies, in conjunction with its official launch in Malaysia, held a special gala premiere in Kuala Lumpur for the upcoming action movie, "Fabricated City". Not only that, the event was attended by the lead actor himself, Ji Chang-wook. Prior to the gala premiere on Saturday night, a press conference was held earlier in the day at The Westin Kuala Lumpur. The press conference was part of the launch event for tvN Movies, which was introduced to HyppTV subscribers on 1 April 2017. "Following the triumphant launch of tvN Movies in Singapore, the launch of tvN Movies in Malaysia, first with HyppTV, is another promising milestone," said Samey Lee, CEO of CJ E&M HK, at the event. "By introducing tvN Movies, the world's first and only Korean blockbuster channel, we hope to tap into the enormous audience base with a diverse cultural background, delivering to them an all-Korean movies home-cinema experience." Ji Chang-wook later took to the stage for a Q&A session, before being joined by several of his lucky fans who won the opportunity to take photos with the "Fabricated City" star.
The action movie marks the 29-year-old's big screen debut as a lead actor. Ji stars as Kwon Yu, a hardcore gamer who spends most of his time at an internet café due to unemployment. When he gets wrongly accused of sexual assault and murder, he works with his virtual teammates to clean his name and free himself from prison. "Fabricated City", also starring Shim Eun-kyung and Ahn Jae-Hong, opens in Malaysian and Singaporean cinemas this 20 April.
