30 Sep – There's no stopping "It"! In less than three weeks of screening, New Line Cinema's "It" not only officially became the highest-grossing horror movie of all time, it has also recently floated past the half a billion mark at the worldwide block office. "Crossing USD500 million is rarefied air for any film, but for a horror film it is history-making, and we could not be prouder," said President Worldwide Marketing and Distribution of Warner Bros. Pictures, Sue Kroll, in a press statement. "The filmmakers and cast did more than make a box office hit; they created a communal, must-see movie-going event that has reverberated around the globe and is still going strong." As mentioned, "It" is currently the highest-grossing horror movie ever. Not an easy feat to achieve, considering that the record was held for more than four decades by the 1973 film, "The Exorcist". Aside from successfully overtaking "The Exorcist's" 44-year throne, other achievements by the Andy Muschietti-helmed film include being the biggest opening weekend ever for a horror film in more than 30 markets and becoming the top-grossing horror film of all time in 17 of those countries, such as United Kingdom, Russia and Australia. With such stellar records, it might come as a surprise that the movie has not even been released in some markets, with countries such as Germany and Japan still waiting for "It" to open in their local cinemas. The sequel will have quite a few records to set it seems when it floats onto the big screen in September 2019.
