17 Mar – Director Ava DuVernay is on a roll with big-budgeted movies as she has been confirmed to direct the superhero epic, "New Gods", for Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Deadline reported that the American director will helm the movie based on the DC Comics comic book series of the same name, with Kario Salem attached to write the screenplay. Fresh off of "A Wrinkle In Time", DuVernay will be the second female director to ever take on a superhero movie after "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins. The appointment of DuVernay to direct "New Gods" is a no-brainer since she once tweeted about a character from the comic book called Big Barda, which she claimed is her favourite superhero.
Gosh, that's hard. Big Barda. Many reasons. #askava https://t.co/3qxGDq7mHe - Ava DuVernay (@ava) December 27, 2017

"New Gods" is the first DCEU movie announced under the new DC Films president, Walter Hamada, who replaced Jon Berg after disappointing results both critically and financially from the recent "Justice League". New Gods are a fictional race set in the DC Comics universe and are natives to the twin planet Apokalips and New Genesis. Apokalips was heavily hinted in last year's "Justice League" and 2016's " Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Besides "New Gods", other DCEU properties that are coming to fruition include "Aquaman", "Shazam!", and the "Wonder Woman" sequel.
