Earlier release for "Deadpool 2"

Here's an early Christmas gift (or late, depending on how you want to see your glass) for Deadpool fans.

12 Jan – The Merc with the Mouth's upcoming movie is getting a new opening date. Earlier planned for a 1 June release in North America, the sequel is now getting moved up two weeks.

"Deadpool 2" will now be released in North American cinemas on 18 May, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This means the Ryan Reynolds-starrer will open at the same time as "Slender Man" and will get a good one-week head start ahead of "Solo: A Star Wars Story".

In the sequel, Reynolds is reprising his titular role, joined by Zazie Beetz as luck-manipulator Domino and Josh Brolin as the time-travelling Cable. The main villain, rumoured to be Black Tom Cassidy, will be played by Jack Kesy ("Baywatch").

While things are looking up for "Deadpool 2", it's not so much for "The New Mutants" and "Gambit".

"The New Mutants", which was originally planned for a 13 April release, has been pushed back 10 months. The movie will now open in North America on 22 February 2019.

Sorry Magik, we know you're taken aback by the delay news too.

Starring Anya Taylor-Joy ("Split") as Magik, Maisie Williams ("Game of Thrones") as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (TV's "The Stranger Things") as Cannonball, Henry Zaga ("13 Reasons Why") as Sunspot, Blu Hunt ("The Originals") as Mirage and Alice Braga ("The Shack") as Cecilia Reyes, the movie is set to be the first in the "X-Men" movie series to fall under the superhero horror genre.

As for "Gambit", Channing Tatum is still set to star but he's looking at two setbacks at the moment.

The first is director Gore Verbinski's decision to pull out from the project due to scheduling conflicts. He's not the first director to walk away from "Gambit", there were Rupert Wyatt ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") and Doug Liman ("Edge of Tomorrow") before him, so the movie does seem to lack a little magic when it comes to maintaining its helmers.

Secondly, the release date for "Gambit" has now been moved from 14 February 2019 to 7 June 2019. If the project faces difficulty in finding someone to fill the vacant directing spot, it could be looking at yet another delay in release date.
