23 Apr – Sophia Lillis is done fighting a demonic clown and will solve mysteries instead as she takes on an iconic literary character. Lillis will portray the iconic sleuth, Nancy Drew, in Warner Bros'. reimagining of the popular 1930 novel, "Nancy Drew Mystery Stories: The Hidden Staircase", as reported by Deadline. This will be Lillis' first major leading role after making a breakthrough in last year's "It" which was a box office and critical success. Plot details of the movie are still kept under wraps but fans of the novel might be familiar with the "The Hidden Staircase" storyline where the titular character has to investigate odd happenings in a mansion. This is not the first attempt in bringing the fictional character of Nancy Drew to the big screen as past portrayals of the young detective include Bonita Granville (1938 – 1939) and Emma Roberts (2007). Production of this adaptation is expected to begin soon with popular talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Chip Diggins, and Jeff Kleema producing the movie. Lilis is currently working on the "It" sequel where she will reprise her role that shot her to fame, Beverly Marsh, and can be seen in the upcoming HBO TV miniseries "Sharp Objects" adapted from Gillian Flynn's novel of the same name.
