23 Sep – Back in May, news broke that Hollywood action star Tom Cruise was all set to go into space for his next film project. Now he finally has a confirmed launch date.

Space Shuttle Almanac tweeted that the actor will be aboard the Axiom Space Station, piloted by Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, that is scheduled to launch in October 2021.

Joining Cruise on the tourist mission is Doug Liman ("Edge of Tomorrow"), as per NME's report, who will direct the movie set aboard the space station.

Cruise teams up with NASA and Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) for the film, which has a budget of around USD200 million and was pitched to Universal by Cruise, Liman, Christopher McQuarrie and PJ van Sandwijk.

In addition to directing, Liman is also writing the script, with McQuarrie serving as story advisor and producer. Also producing are Cruise, Liman and van Sandwijk.

Meanwhile, Cruise's other movie with McQuarrie, "Mission: Impossible 7", has resumed filming earlier this month after months of delay caused by the pandemic. Assuming that production will wrap by this year, the movie is expected to open in cinemas in November 2021.
