9 Feb – After it was revealed that "Shang-Chi" director Destin Daniel Cretton will be helming Disney+ series "American Born Chinese", it was recently reported that Michelle Yeoh is set to be joining the cast as well.

The upcoming series, which will follow a teenage boy who finds himself in the middle of an epic battle between Chinese mythological gods, will have the Malaysian-born actress playing the role of Guanyin - the boy's aunt who helps her nephew get through high school. At the same time, Guanyin is also the all-powerful Buddhist bodhisattva of Compassion - an identity she keeps hidden from everybody.

Michelle expressed, "Reunited... and it feels so great!! Disney+ with Destin, Melvin, Ke, Daniel... So so delighted."

Michelle is joined by "MacGyver" actor Ben Wang, who will be playing the lead as Jin Wang.

The series is based on Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel of the same name

Other stars include another Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann, "Mortal Kombat" star Chin Han, as well as Hong Kong star and "Into the Badlands" actor Daniel Wu - the latter to play another god who is in search of his son, the Monkey King.

She will be seen next in James Cameron's "Avatar" sequel, voicing a character in "Minions: The Rise of Gru", as well as playing the lead in the sci-fi film, "Everything Everywhere All at Once".
