10 Jan – It looks like fans of Mamat Khalid's "Kampung Pisang" series will be able to get to experience eating at the said eatery, after owner Muhammad Asri Mohd Azraie decided to reopen business using the name Warung Pak Jabit. The previously abandoned eatery in Kampung Karai Kuala Kangsar, which was previously used as a location for three of Mamat Khalid's works, which is "18 Puasa di Kampung Pisang", "Kampung Pisang Bersiri-siri" and "Hantu Kak Limah", was revealed to have reopened since February last year. Speaking about the revamp of the abandoned place, Muhammad Asri shared that the family eatery had been in business from 2004 to 2008 before it was rented to others.
"Due to some issues, it was abandoned for 10 years before the production team decided to rent it as a shooting location in 2018. It was then named Warung Pak Jabit," he said. Pak Jabit in this case is a character played by comedian Man Kadir that first appeared in Mamat's "Zombi Kampung Pisang". The role was then taken by filmmaker Aziz M. Osman following Man's passing in 2017. Muhammad Asri also admitted that the popularity of the Kampung Pisang and Pak Jabit's character helped a lot in bringing in customers to the eatery, which sells most of the dishes from the movie's menu, including "mi kari kuah laksa". Due to the reception, he said that they have now upgraded the premise, including adding public restroom and more tables for diners.
It is noted that aside from the said Warung Pak Jabit, a replica of Warung Pak Jabit was also built in Mamat Khalid's Sarang Art Hub compound.
