"Shrek 5" and "Minions 3" get new release dates

13 Jan - Universal Pictures has recently changed the release dates for two of its animated features from their two biggest animation franchises: "Shrek" and "Minions".

"Shrek 5", which was originally slotted for 1 July 2026 release, will now be released on 23 December 2026. The movie will see the return of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey.

Meanwhile, "Minions 3" will be taking over the 1 July 2026 slot. The movie was originally scheduled to be released in June 2027.

The movie is helmed by "Despicable Me" director Pierre Coffin, who also directed the first "Minions".

As for the June 2027 slot that has been freed, Universal said that another untitled film will now take over.

It is noted that the last "Shrek" film, "Shrek Forever After", was released in 2010. It made USD 752.6 million at the box office. Meanwhile, "Minions: The Rise of Gru", the last film that was released in 2022, made USD 940.2 million at the box office.
