11 Jul - After Eddie Murphy preemptively announced that he has started working on "Shrek 5", Universal and DreamWorks Animation finally announced that the animated feature is now in production.

The movie, which has long been in development since the last film, "Shrek Forever After" was released in 2010, will be released on 1 July 2026, and is helmed by Walt Dohrn, who penned the second and third films.

Aside from Murphy, it was revealed that both Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz will also return as Shrek and Fiona.

The original animated feature, released in 2001, revolves around an ogre named Shrek, who finds himself falling in love with Fiona, the princess of Far Far Away after saving her from a dragon. Unbeknownst to him, Fiona has been cursed to have a body of an ogre.

The latest film to have emerged from the franchise as the 2022's "Puss in Boots" sequel, "The Last Wish", which made USD 481.5 million worldwide.
