8 Nov – There hasn't been much update after news broke more than two years ago that Universal Pictures is planning to produce more "Shrek" movies but now we know the plan is still happening, as "Despicable Me" producer Chris Meledandri has confirmed it himself. His Illumination Entertainment has been tasked with rebooting not only "Shrek" but also "Puss in Boots", according to Variety. Meledandri even stated that he would love to have the same voice cast return for the reboot. "When you look back on those vocal performances they're awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations," said Meledandri. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas were among the original cast that voiced the characters in the first 2001 "Shrek" movie up until the fourth movie in the franchise, 2010's "Shrek Forever After".
Best known for the "Minion" franchise, Illumination is also working on another animated movie, an adaptation of the popular Nintendo game "Super Mario Bros.". Since the project was announced last November, Meledandri said that he's been working closely with Shigeru Miyamoto, the designer and producer of the game, on the movie that is set to be released in 2022. While fans will have to wait for some time to see the abovementioned movies on the big screen, they'll still feel like Christmas has come early for them this year because Illumination's latest movie, "The Grinch", is currently playing in cinemas
