Based on the 1999 epistolary teenage-adult novel of the same name, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" revolves around a troubled introvert, high school freshman, Charlie (Logan Lerman) who seeks solace by writing letters to an unnamed friend as he tackles the issues of fitting in to find friends and surviving what could be the worst and painful period of his life - high school.

Set in early 90s, the film is shot with a dreamy feeling, which perfectly captures the essence and the story's disposition. The cars, fashion and music used gives the film an air of authenticity. Some of the moments in the film are particularly memorable, which take audiences through the stunning views of Pittsburgh city, the Fort Pitt Tunnel and Fort Pitt Bridge on Interstate 376.

Logan Lerman, who is also casted as the lead in the fantasy film "Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief", delivers an astounding performance in his portrayal of Charlie, who has to come to terms with his troubled state of mind due to a traumatic incident from his past that he cannot recall.
Meanwhile, "Harry Potter" star, Emma Watson, casts off her good girl image to take a walk on the wild side by playing Sam, Charlie's love interest. While it is not always easy to transit from a native child star to taking on more adult roles, we can see that Watson has effortlessly morphed into a charming, confident and sexy young lady in "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower". Together with co-star Ezra Miller, who plays her stepbrother, Patrick, the duo bring a touch of lightheartedness to the film, but of the two, it is Miller who takes center stage with his charismatic, carefree and openly gay Patrick.

Perhaps the reason why the film works is because Stephen Chbosky, who wrote the novel, is also the director of the film. His film features some of his best dialogues and quotes from the book. From coping with a bittersweet first love to real-life issues of fitting into the social circle to struggles with body images and sexuality, "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" is a film perfect for anyone who is also struggling to find their own identity to relate to.

A film with a heartfelt, touching and sincere message, "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" is a film that you would not want to miss.
