Many local celebrities made their way to the event to lend their support and interact with the fans including Norliana Samsudin, Norman Abdul Halim, Yusry Abdul Halim, Cat Farish, Rozita Che Wan, Nadia Mustapha, Ogy Ahmad Daud, Awal Ashaari, Dynas Mokhtar, Saiful Apek, Zami Ismail, Julia Ziegler, Imuda, Intan Ladyana, Raja Farah and Lisa Surihani among others. Moviegoers excitedly brushed shoulders with the stars and brought home some memorabilia in a form of autographed cards and pictures of them with the actors. Movie Carnival also served as a platform for the KRU brothers, the brains behind the successful "Cicakman" (2006), to launch the very first "Cicakman" comic to the audience. It is the first of its kind in Malaysia to launch a comic series after a movie.
Besides that, the 501st Malaysia-Brunei Outpost deployed Stormtroopers & other Galactic Empire characters from the Star Wars universe to 'police' Movie Carnival 2008 over the course of two days on 31 May 2008 and 1 June 2008. According to Peter Lai, the leader of the outfit, Droid Hunt is a game that is inspired by the first Star Wars movie in 1977, "A New Hope". It was designed with the intention to recreate the suspense of seemingly harmless droids that hide themselves from the Stormtroopers because they possess valuable data for the Rebellion. He added: "This game has been played in New York, Japan and at various other Star Wars conventions held across the globe. It is something that is very special to us." Participants who signed up were each given a limited edition Droid Badge, which they must hide from the evil patrolmen from the Star Wars universe. Upon discovery, participants are encouraged to act "in character" as a Rebel sympathiser. Once a member of the 501st Malaysia-Brunei Outpost finds them, they will get to take part in the lucky draw and a chance to win one of its prizes.
Another public anticipated activity was when local distributor Metrowealth productions organised an open casting audition to give young talents an opportunity to act in Metrowealth's upcoming films. Participants laughed, cried and even threw a fit of rage in a test to prove their acting capabilities. Movie characters also brought a lot of fun and laughter to the crowd as Spiderman, Kung Fu Panda, Alien Vs Predator, Cicakman and even Ultraman wowed them with their amazing costumes.
A "Prom Night" competition took the stage where finalists strutted their stuff, showcasing their best prom outfits and dazzling the crowd and panel of judges with their talents. Six prom princesses elegantly glided up the stage with their uniquely themed dresses – there was a gypsy princess, gothic princess and of course some enchanted princesses! There were plenty of stage activities that never failed to draw a huge crowd and kids actively took part in the numerous colouring and drawing contests held throughout the duration of Movie Carnival.
Movie Carnival 2008 had been an exciting journey for movie fans to experience and it will continue to do so in the years to come.
