1 Sept – "The Final Destination" topped the box office in the United States last weekend (Aug 27-30) with an estimated US$27.4 million, the biggest debut of the franchise according to online tracker Box Office Mojo. The film has also debuted at the top in Singapore and will release in Malaysia on 3 September 2009. Meanwhile, last week's top grosser "Inglorious Basterds" raked in 19.3 million and "Halloween 2" trailed with an estimated US$16.3 million, which was true to its franchise by paling compared to its predecessor. During the long weekend in conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day, it has been observed that ticket sales within a few major cinemas in the Klang Valley have been slightly slower than usual. However, Pixar's animation "Up" manages to keep afloat at the No.1 spot for two weeks in a row despite close competition from India's superhero flick "Kanthaswamy" and Hong Kong's "Kung Fu Cyborg".
