3 Nov – U-rated "High School Musical 3" is hitting all the right notes, at least before "Quantum Of Solace" opens this Thursday, as it maintains its appeal and stays top of the Malaysian box office for another weekend, edging new Thai horror "The Coffin".
There is a decent bow for local treat "Budak Kelantan", as the gritty urban action-drama made fifth on the box office chart behind "Bangkok Dangerous" and Deepavali holdover "Aegan". Another new release is Hong Kong horror-comedy "The Vampire Who Admires Me", which opened with only 13 prints at No.9, behind "Seval", "Tropic Thunder" and "Max Payne". All movies on the top ten last weekend were rated 18 with the exception of "High School Musical 3" and "Budak Kelantan", giving the family-friendly fare like "Mamma Mia" and "Eagle Eye" more residual time at the cinemas before they make their exits. Going out on a single print to TGV Capsquare was Bollywood's answer to "Devil Wear's Prada" – the self-explanatory "Fashion". Similarly, Japanese-language "Boys Over Flowers" was niche fare and only played at four locations. Both new releases did not make the top ten.
