Outrageous movie title!

25 Nov – Director Ahmad Idham seems to really know his way around the business very well. After successfully directing "Impak Maksima: The Musical", Idham returns to filmmaking and now comes up with a new flick, "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak". Interestingly, half of the cast of this new film are no other than the musical team itself, including singers Zarina Zainoordin and Dina (Malaysian Idol) as well as IMTM's musical director Cat Farish.

Speaking to the media at Lemon Restaurant, The Mines, recently, singer and Akademi Fantasia alum Zarina said: "Everybody knows that "Jangan Pandang Belakang" and "Congkak" are two great movies, which means I have to work even harder to make sure this one will be as good as both. Although my part is not as significant as the others, this would be my first time in a comedic role so I will make sure that I am prepared for it."

Besides her, the movie also boasts a cast of various talents that include award-winning actress Lisa Surihani, not to mention Mas Muharni, comedians Mazlan Pet Pet and Piee, and controversial actor-director Pierre Andre. Using the old black art of 'saka' as its theme, "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" will start shooting on 25 November in Perlis and around the Klang Valley.

"We sing, we dance, and now we act like there's no tomorrow"
With a reported budget of RM 1.8 million, "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" is Metrowealth's 31st movie. According to Director Ahmad Idham, "This would be my first time directing such a genre but I think this is a good formula to attract the audience and give them something different. Moreover, those two titles were box office hits and I do believe that this movie will sell."

Horror-comedy genre has been one of the better received genres in Malaysia. Afdlin Shauki came up with a straight-to-video movie called "Kelibat" a few years back that became an instant hit, while Junaidi Dahalan and Tommy Chung made teen horror-comedy flick "Main-Main Hantu" in 1990, and Mamat Khalid's "Zombie Kampung Pisang" was a 2007 box office hit. Back in 1959, Tan Sri P.Ramlee injected some horror elements in one of his "Bujang Lapok" franchise, "Pendekar Bujang Lapok".
