3 Jun – With recent release of rom-com "Syurga Cinta" on 21 May in Malaysian cinemas directed by Ahmad Idham, the Malaysian filmmaker has already secured another release due 4 June entitled "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak." This movie marks as his first attempt at a horror-comedy, in which the movie name is a combination of his previous two horror film titles: "Jangan Pandang Belakang" and "Congkak." Speaking to the media at Cathay Cineleisure Damansara, the director said: "'Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak' is different from other horror films because there is nothing scary about this film at all. I just wanted to lay out something different within a horror movie as a majority of horror movies in Malaysia are similar. So I felt the need to try something new and include elements of comedy."
Meanwhile, "Syurga Cinta" succeeded in grossing RM1 million within 4 days of its release. Ahmad Idham commented, "If the romantic-comedy film could gross that much within less than one week, what more for a comedy-horror. Hard work is important!" Producer David Teo said that if "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" becomes a box-office film in Malaysia, there's high possibility that this film will be shown in Singapore in July this year. If that were to come true, "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" will be the first Malaysian comedy-horror film to be shown in Singapore
"Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" features Mazlan Pet Pet, Shaheizy Sam, Cat Farish, Lisa Surihani, Zarina, Mas Muharni and also first appearance by Dina (Malaysian Idol). "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" will be showing in Malaysia on 4 June 2009.
