25 Oct – Local rom-com "Cuti-Cuti Cinta" starring Nora Danish and Farid Kamil is Malaysia's highest-grossing film for the weekend just gone (21 – 24 Oct), fighting off new release "Red" which stars top-notch stars like Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. The 18-rated action flick ambushed in second at the box office and was reported to be the top grosser at Golden Screen Cinemas. Made for action fans, "Red" is a DC comic adaptation that tells of a group of aging assassins and former CIA agents who must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers.
Other releases that opened over the weekend include "You Again", "The Perfect Wedding", "Hachiko: A Dog's Story", "Life As We Know It", "Jootha Hi Sahi", "Altitude" and "Panchamukhi".
Meanwhile in the US, "Paranormal Activity 2," the sequel to last year's low-budget hit, delivered the highest-grossing opening weekend ever for a supernatural horror movie. According to Box Office Mojo, the pre-Halloween horror lead the box office with an estimated US$41.5 million, while the "Jackass 3D" pulls in an additional US$21.5 million and Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter" struggles to US$12 million.
