13 May – The inaugural Johor Bahru Film Festival is happening this June in Johor. The three-day event will feature film screenings as well as workshops. JB Arts Festival announced the upcoming event on its official Facebook page, saying that the introduction of the film fest is "JB:IFC's response to the demand for film-related activities from the success of past film events." Filmmakers will be coming to Johor Bahru during the festival to introduce films from around the region that carry relevant social messages to society.
The film fest will screen 8 feature-length films from Singapore ("Sayang Disayang"), Philippines ("Halaw"), India ("Labour of Love"), Bangladesh ("Television"), Indonesia ("Soekarno"), Cambodia ("Cambodian Son"), Thailand ("Pee Mak") and Malaysia ("Cuak"); 6 shorts by independent Malaysian filmmakers; as well as 2 children's films – 1 French and 1 Japanese. Other events include 2 workshops with speakers from the USA and the Philippines; 1 forum with the directors and producers of the films; and a Red Carpet Reception featuring directors, producers, actors, and VIPs. Day one event will be held at MAP @ MediniNusajaya, while Day 2 and Day 3 events are to be held at Multimedia University, Nusajaya Campus. Johor Bahru Film Festival 2015 takes place from 11 to 13 June.
