12 Oct – Dato' Kamil Othman, the Director General of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), has once again been elected as the Vice President of Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet). Kamil will be holding the role for another consecutive term, from 2016 to 2018, as revealed in a post on FINAS' Facebook page. "As we have arrived at the era of cinema on the go, technology is playing highly significant role in content creation," said Kamil in his acceptance speech, while also extending his gratitude towards the members' full support. "We must not forget how essential storytelling is in this aspect that could be strategically extended into teaching, training, educating and also into social engineering." By becoming one of the active members of AFCNet, Malaysia forms a strong partnership with foreign countries, making it an essential platform in driving the new domestic ecosystem. By bringing potential foreign investors into Malaysia, this will generate more international co-productions with local companies, a move forward that the FINAS Director General has always lauded. Following his re-election, the AFCNet Vice President will continue to represent Malaysia at the Asian Content Business Summit (ACBS), which he has been actively involved in since 2010. AFCNet is Asia's largest non-profit international film-related organisation, which facilitates information sharing among its 59 members from 18 countries including Korea, China, India and Japan. Headed by Busan Film Commission as the chair organisation, AFCNet celebrates its 12th anniversary in 2016.
