30 Mar – After James Wan's "The Conjuring" raked in USD318 million at the box office, it spawned a successful franchise which, so far, includes a sequel, "The Conjuring 2", and a spin-off, "Annabelle".
Naturally, the spin-off is getting its own sequel as it managed to scare up quite a box office figure too. The sequel, previously called "Annabelle 2", has been renamed "Annabelle: Creation".
The new title was announced by Warner Bros. during their recent session at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, according to Coming Soon.
The follow-up to the successful 2014 horror flick, "Annabelle", will be directed by David. F. Sandberg, who had previously directed "Lights Out" in 2016, which was considered to be a "fresh" take on the supernatural horror genre with great use of silhouette and negative space.
Like the prequel, "Annabelle: Creation" will be produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who also partnered up for the two "The Conjuring" flicks, and with a screenplay by Gary Dauberman.
This time, Dauberman will be writing for a whole new cast, most of whom are no stranger to the supernatural, horror and thriller genres. The cast includes Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Philippa Coulthard, Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto and young actresses, Lulu Wilson, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee and Tayler Buck.
The movie has a lot of box office successes to live up to, but with so many great people working on it, there is a good chance "The Conjuring" franchise's unexpected success will stay strong.
"Annabelle: Creation" will be about a dollmaker and his wife. Several years after the tragic loss of their young daughter, they invite a nun and several orphaned girls into their home. Unfortunately for the new arrivals, they become the target of the dollmaker's possessed doll, Annabelle.
The movie's release date, which was pushed back from the originally planned 19 May, is now set for 10 August 2017.
