18 Jul – After postponing its original 7 July release in Malaysia to the 21st, it has been revealed that "Thor: Love and Thunder" is now postponed indefinitely. The news was revealed by cinema operators GSC and TGV, with the former tweeting, "Disney has updated us that the release of #ThorLoveandThunder in Malaysia is now 'TBA' – release date is now undated." "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience in this matter as we await more updates from Disney."
No reason has been given as to why the movie was delayed, with a Disney spokesman in Asia telling Variety, "We will only advise when we have new updates." It is noted that prior to "Thor: Love and Thunder", another one of Disney's title, "Lightyear" cancelled its release in Malaysia after Disney refused to abide by local censorship rules. There have been many speculations regarding the delay, with some saying that Disney was worried of the movie's prospect competing against Syamsul Yusof's "Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan", which has now accumulated RM80 million at the box office, while others believed that it was the studio's way of 'retaliating' over the "Lightyear" controversy. The film is currently playing in other Southeast Asian countries, such as Indonesia and Singapore. It has now accumulated USD 329 million worldwide.
