Atlee makes his debut full-length film "Raja Rani" with a sole message of 'there is love after love lost'.

John (Arya) and Regina (Nayanthara) gets married with the main aim of satisfying their parents' wish. Both of them hate each other from the first day and they undergo a rough life together. When Regina suffers a stroke one day, John finds about her past love story with Suriya (Jai).

As time goes by, Regina too finds out about John's past love with Keerthana (Nazriya Nazim). Since they both understand the pain of losing their loved ones, they start to sympathize with each other. How they cope with their love lost and how they come together forms the rest of the story.

Even though Arya plays the lead role, it was Nayanthara and Jai's performances in the first half of the film that was the best among others. Nayanthara's mature role and emotional expressions justify her role well. Arya and Santhanam share some good comical moments together, but Nazriya did not have a strong role to portray her talent, but she still looked cute. Sathyaraj looks young at heart and plays his part as a modern dad, which is commendable.

Music composed by GV Prakash like "Chilena" and "Hey Baby" are catchy but it doesn't stick in your head long enough. Technically, the cinematography by George Williams is enchanting, with vibrant colors that go well with every scene.

Although the second half runs on predictable lines with emotions still running high, it's still a promising debut by Atlee, who also wrote the films script with ease and his career looks promising as a young director joining the cinematic field. In some angle, the film reminds you of Maniratnam's "Mouna Ragam" which deals with same theme. Overall, "Raja Rani" is a refreshing love story, and it is fun for the whole family as it succeeds in entertaining the general audience.
