Talking The Pictures (JFF)

During the early days of movies in 20th century Japan, performers known as Katsubenshi or benshi provide live narrations to silent films. Sometani Shuntaro is a young woman who dreams of becoming a benshi but a decade later, he finds himself serving as a fake benshi to a band of thieves instead. He escapes when his boss is captured and while finding refuge at a provincial theatre, he finally gets his chance to shine as a real benshi. However, his quick rise to fame has attracted the attention of a rival benshi.
