When "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta" ("AADC") was first released in 2002, 14 years ago, it became an extraordinary phenomenon not only in Indonesia, but also in other countries including Malaysia. The movie about love, friendship and poetry starring Nicholas Saputra and Dian Sastrowardoyo no doubt left a deep impact on audiences.
Now after more than a decade, "AADC" returns to the big screen in the form of a new sequel, "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2", which answers the questions that may be lingering in audiences' minds as to how the love story of Rangga and Cinta ends.
During the movie's recent gala premiere at Cathay Cineplex, eCurve, the two stars shared their experiences filming this year's much anticipated romantic movie. Continue reading Cinema Online's interview with Nicholas Saputra and Dian Sastrowardoyo below! Before the release of "AADC 2", a few fans were a little disappointed while some were happy with the trailer. What's your take on that? Dian: At first I was a little worried when the trailer was released because I was afraid it would reveal too much of what would happen, but then I didn't think there was a problem with it since it did not show the whole movie. If you want to find out what happened, you must watch the movie. Nicholas: I have no comment since the trailer did not show the whole movie, so if [audiences] want to know the ending to Rangga and Cinta's love story, they must watch "AADC2". Was it hard for you, Dian, to maintain the chemistry with Nicholas after 14 years of not working together? Dian: The chemistry between us has always been there, even after 14 years, whenever we get together it is still there. Same like riding a motorcycle, even if you haven't rode one in 15 years, once you do you can definitely still ride it. After the success of the first movie, how do you intend to keep the movie's momentum going? Dian: Honestly, we can't give the answer to that question but we do know that we have given the best and hope for the best for this movie.
What's your most memorable experience while filming "AADC 2"? Dian: My most memorable experience is during the filming in Jogjakarta, where I didn't feel like it was even a movie filming, instead it felt like a vacation with friends. It was very enjoyable. What are your thoughts on the kiss scene between Rangga and Cinta in "AADC 2" that was cut? Dian: I don't think it is relevant to ask this question. However, if [audiences] want to watch the whole scene without cuts, Malaysian audiences can watch it in Jakarta or Jogjakarta. What's your reaction after seeing the positive reception from fans towards "AADC 2"? Nicholas: I'd like to thank the fans because even though it's been 14 years, they are still excited with the sequel's release. Do you think there will be a third movie after this? Nicholas: I don't dare to confirm so since even with the first movie, I did not expect such encouraging reception from audiences, in fact I have never thought there would be an "AADC 2" until I was offered [the role] once again by the producers. "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2" is now showing in cinemas.
