19 Feb - Popular Malaysian actress and singer Erra Fazira's seven year marriage with Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin, Suria FM's Head of Operation, finally ended in divorce at the Syariah High Court yesterday.
The couple's marriage was rumored to be troubled for the last three years, and both Erra and Engku Emran agreed to a mutual separation after their relationship had gone through irreconcilable differences and have been living separately for over a year.
Donning a grey suit and a songkok, Engku Emran, 39, pronounced the divorce in a choking voice before judge Muhammad Adib Husain, while Erra, 40, whose real name is Fazira Wan Chek, came to court in a long dress and hijab and looked calmer.
Engku Emran was given full custody rights over their daughter, Engku Aleesya,5, while Erra was given visitation rights along with overnight stays and holidays. Erra also did not claim for any alimony from Engku Emran whom she married on Oct 25, 2007.
Speaking to reporters after the case, Erra said she felt relieved that all speculation on her marriage had ended.
"The divorce is settled without any hassle, Alhamdulillah," she said. Engku Emran refused to comment.
Erra was previously married to actor and singer Yusry Abdul Halim in 2003, which lasted for three years.
