20 Jul – A Chinese spinoff of the Hollywood caper franchise, "Now You See Me", may soon be realised. Lionsgate and Beijing-based Leomus Pictures reportedly are teaming up to produce a Chinese-language spinoff of the hit movie, following the sequel's success in China recently, China Topix reported. "We're working closely on the story with Lionsgate. A Hollywood writer is working on the script so that the spinoff is in line with the original series," said Leomus CEO, Jie Qiu. "Now You See Me 2", which also stars Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou, was a box office success in China when it was released in the country last month, taking in more than USD92 million, surpassing its US box office. Though it was a hit in China, "Now You See Me 2" didn't receive the same love in the US, with critics giving it only 33 percent approval on film review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.
