4 Jul – Malaysian film "Redha" has won two awards at the World Premieres Film Festival Philippines 2016 which took place yesterday.

The awards are for Best Female Actress which went to "Redha's" leading actress, June Lojong as the mother who has to raise an autistic child, while the second award is the Special Jury Prize.

Both the awards were accepted by the film's director, Tunku Mona Riza who was ecstatic that her film which was screened under the competition section had managed to touch the hearts of audiences at the festival.

When contacted by Cinema Online, Tunku Mona Riza said that one of the reasons the film managed to get the attention of the jury members was because it had a very simple storyline without complexities.

"The theme of autism in "Redha" is also very universally relatable and understood by everyone," she said.

Apart from June Lojong, "Redha" also stars Namron, Nadiya Nisaa, Remy Ishak, Harith Haziq, Ruminah Sidek, Susan Lankester and Izzy Reef.

Previously, Tunku Mona had expressed her disappointment when her RM3.5 million produced film had received a lukewarm reception from Malaysian audiences garnering the film a box office collection of RM497,071.75.

However, Tunku Mona now feels somewhat encouraged that her film had a well reception especially amongst audiences and medical practitioners who said that her film serves as guide to bring awareness towards the autism plight.
