11 Oct – Malaysian writer Adele Lim is following up her "Crazy Rich Asians" writing gig with another big Hollywood project. This time the writer is stepping into the House of Mouse to pen a script for an animated Disney movie, as reported by Deadline. Not much is known of the untitled project at the moment, except that it will feature an Asian element and has a female protagonist. The movie is planned for released in cinemas instead of on Disney's upcoming streaming platform. Osnat Shurer, who previously produced "Moana", has also joined on board as producer. While this fact and the concept of the movie might draw comparison to both the 2016 "Moana" and the 1998 "Mulan", it should be noted that the new movie reportedly will not be musically-inclined like the two. The Walt Disney Animation Studios project will see Disney story artists Paul Briggs ("Frozen") and Dean Wellins making their directorial debut. The duo has previously worked together on "Zootopia", "Big Hero 6" and "Tangled". As for Lim, even though this is the LA-based writer's first Disney work, she has plenty of writing experience since she wrote for TV series "Lethal Weapon", "Reign", "One Tree Hill" and "Star-Crossed". Not to mention she successfully adapted "Crazy Rich Asians" from the novel to the big screen and is now working on the rom-com's sequel. (Photo source: Kathy Hutchins | Shutterstock.com)
