22 May - The steady stream of superhero movies since 2008's "Iron Man" has led to a massive hype build up for the nineteenth movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Avengers: Infinity War", that has now broken box office records left and right including that in Malaysia. To date, the superhero ensemble feature is Malaysia's all-time highest box office movie at RM65 million, Walt Disney Malaysia confirms to Cinema Online. The record was previously held by "Fast and Furious 7" back in 2015, which made approximately RM63 million according to Box Office Mojo stats. Meanwhile, the third all-time highest grossing box office movie in Malaysia is a new entry from this year's release, and it is none other than the Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson starrer, "Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle", which collected approximately RM56 million in cinemas. Having been released in the country since 25 April 2018, "Avengers: Infinity War" is now in its fifth week in cinemas and has spent three weeks at the number one spot before being derailed by the Merc with a Mouth via the newly released "Deadpool 2" - also another Marvel film, but distributed by 20th Century Fox. In its first week of release, "Avengers: Infinity War" had also broken the record for being Malaysia's all-time highest opening weekend movie, collecting RM32.95 million. Worldwide, "Avengers: Infinity War" has collected USD1.81 billion at the box office. Can "Avengers: Infinity War" go on to gross USD2 billion globally? In your opinion, what movies releasing this year could possibly match or top "Avengers" in Malaysia?
