The film is about a TV company that intends to start a reality TV show where contestants live in an uninhabited part of Norway, away from any help. Gunnar, the boss, decides that the production team should try this for themselves first, with the intention of creating bods between the production`s team members. So the crew head to an old cabin in the woods and Gunnar takes away every member`s cell phone and cigarettes to simulate what the contestants have to go through. While scouting the area around the cabin, team members Lasse and Per come across a dead body and informs Gunnar but Gunnar decides to keep it a secret as not to ruin the trip. That night however, things get even creepier.

Filem "Dark Forest" ini mengisahkan tentang syarikat TV yang merancang untuk membuat rancangan realiti TV yang mana pesertanya tinggal di kawasan yang tidak berpenghuni di Norway yang jauh dari sebarang bantuan. Gunnar, bos rancangan TV itu memutuskan bahawa pasukan penerbitan harus cuba terlebih dahulu, dengan niat untuk mewujudkan ikatan antara ahli pasukan penerbitan itu. Jadi, dengan itu, ketua anak kapal kabin mula memasuki hutan dan tanpa pengetahuan mereka, Gunnar mehilangkan telefon bimbit setiap ahli dan rokok untuk melihat apa yang bakal peserta lalui. Ketika sedang meninjau kawasan, ahli pasukan Lasse dan Per menjumpai satu mayat dan memberitahu Gunnar tentang perkara itu, tetapi Gunnar memutuskan untuk merahsiakan perkara agak tidak merosakan 'mood' perjalanan mereka. Four naïve twenty-somethings, a cabin deep in the woods and a mysterious lake form a hackneyed recipe for a horror movie. The movie is about four young people who get recruited by for a reality TV show: protagonist Lasse (Kristoffer Joner), his friend Per(Marko Iversen Kanic), pretty girl Sara (Sampda Sharma) and tough Swede Elin (Eva Röse). They are hired by Gunnar (Bjørn Floberg), a strict and strange boss with anger control issues who challenge them to camp out at his childhood cabin. Things seem a little off when they get there but they really start to go downhill when the boys realize discover the lake close to the cabin.

The movie starts off promising, triggering questions about the mysterious location and Gunnar's odd personality. However, it veers off course halfway through, focusing on cheap trills like dead animals and false scares. The end leaves the viewer with a lot of unanswered questions but not in an artistic open-to-interpretation way.

The characters in this movie are predictable and right out of a horror movie textbook. The only character with depth is Gunnar. As the movie progresses, we see Gunnar spiral downwards into anger and aggression that he takes out on the participant through odd punishments. Alas, the viewer is not provided much closure on the Gunnar's personality.

The only saving grace in this movie is the way it is shot. The use of light to create and aura of mystery and eeriness is an effective and constant theme throughout the movie. Crucial to a horror movie is the timing and sound effects used in a thrilling scene. The movie is done just right, without cliched horror soundtracks.

If you are looking to get spooked and don't care much for a plot, this is the movie for you. It will leave you with a lot of unanswered questions and a handful of disturbing, gory scenes but you probably won't have trouble going to bed at night.
